Sahana Banerjee, one of the leading female sitar players of India belonging to Rampur Senia Gharana performed for the Riverians. She was accompanied by Shri Mithilesh Jha on the tabla. The artist touched upon the history of Sitar and its global popularity.
Sahana ji played Shuddha Sarang tune on her Sitar. Her unique presentation reflected the traditional Veenkar Dhrupad Style of Rampur Senia Gharana maintaining the purity of Raga alongwith her own aesthetical blends of Gayaki.
Sahana ji is a recipient of the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, awarded by the Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi. She is a Grade ‘A’ artist with the All India Radio and National Television and has been giving recitals since 1995. She is an empaneled artist of ‘ SPICMACAY’, an organization for the preservation and promotion of India music, and has given several concerts for them.
The students enjoyed the melodious atmosphere created by the artists.
